I started to say, "glad I'm not the only one struggling" this year, but really, I wish no one had been through any of the junk they've been through. It's been a sorta' sucky year in a number of ways. Hopefully, things will improve. If they don't, they don't. One way or another, it'll all be over with eventually, which can be viewed as a blessing or not, depending on how you look at it.

Do you suffer INTELLECTUAL STARVATION?
by Terry insymptoms of intellectual starvation:.
1.purposelessness, time-wasting, apathy, cynical desuetude.. 2.aimless hobbies that run out the clock.
3.fluff reading.

I've been reading a lot of science lately. I felt like a suicide the other night, but it passed. oh well.
Yes, I have suffered intellectual starvation. That's one of the reasons for getting rid of my t.v. last year. I've read a lot more since then; however, emotional fulfilment is elusive.
I think it is okay to have fun and to be entertained, but not chronically at the expense of mental exercise.
My brain has almost gone into torpor due to my chronic unconscious need for escape from pain, over the years.
I think emotional pain therefore makes it harder to exercise mentally; it's much easier to vegetate in front of the tele with or without a beer; or read a fluff mag or romance novel to melt away the pain that never goes away.
Concentrating on intellectual topics is profoundly challenging when unidentified, free-floating emotions clog the mind. Anyway, some of us are trying to get past this.

Wow! Nobel Winner Says Blacks Less Intelligent
by Justitia Themis inhttp://www.cnn.com/2007/tech/science/10/18/science.race/index.html.
a british museum has canceled a lecture by dr. james watson, co-discoverer of the dna double helix, after he claimed black people are less intelligent than whites in a recent newspaper interview.. watson, who won the 1962 nobel prize for his part in discovering the structure of dna, provoked a storm of criticism after his comments were published in the sunday times.. the eminent biologist told the british newspaper he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours -- whereas all the testing says not really.".
watson, 79, had been due to give a lecture at london's science museum on friday but the museum canceled his appearance, saying his comments had "gone beyond the point of acceptable debate.".

You may be right, mkr, if the Wiki discussion of the matter is accurate.
What study is ridiculous?

You know, I was about to get offended by his comment, but the guy has not aged well. He looks like the Crypt Keeper, for crying out loud:
Thanks for discovering DNA.
Now keep your mouth shut.
And Crick wasn't the only one to "discover" how DNA is structured. Hopefully, Rosalind Franklin will haunt this guy into his grave, speaking of crypt-keepers! From Wikipedia:
The rules of the Nobel Prize forbid posthumous nominations, [89] ; because Rosalind Franklin had died in 1958 she was not eligible for nomination to the Nobel Prize subsequently awarded to Crick, Watson, and Wilkins in 1962. [90] The award was for their body of work on nucleic acids and not exclusively for the discovery of the structure of DNA. [91] By the time of the award Wilkins had been working on the structure of DNA for over 10 years, and had done much to confirm the Crick-Watson model. [92] Crick had been working on the genetic code at Cambridge and Watson had worked on RNA for some years. [93]

Just so everyone knows, Watson and Crick stole a prepublication version of a paper from Rosalind Franklin, a woman, who had discovered the real structure of DNA through DNA x-ray diffraction. They presented her information as their own and gave her a brief footnote mention.
So let's see, who is less intelligent here?
Yes, erynw, I remember an interview with an author on Franklin. Thanks for that important reminder. I'm going to look up the book and read it; I'd forgotten about that disgusting little fact about Crick's work.

FORGIVENESS
by tula inare you obligated to forgive someone.
......if they do not ask for forgiveness.
......if they show no remorse for the transgression.
-

Sometimes people grow and change and sometimes they don't. Forgiveness is growth. Forgetting is denial, and denial would get in the way of growth and letting go. Accepting what is/was without judgement is no natural task, at least not for those trained to do otherwise.

I see the closing down of kingdom halls and meetings held only in private homes or rental buildings, with individual congs footing all the bills for it.
I see the society using all the kingdumb hell monies to pay off lawsuits for sex abuse scandals and to defend itself against wrongful death suits and to pay out more and more and more settlements to more and more and more victims of their b.s. re3garding the blood issue and sex abuse coverups.

Exciting announcements at service meeting
by truthseeker inwe've already had a post on this, but there were other interesting comments.. the brother giving the announcements said that there would be a new understanding of jesus' reference to the generation as discussed at the annual meeting.. an elder giving a service meeting part review of different watchtower articles from the current year brought out the new light concerning 1935.. he asks: "when is the sealing of the anounted ones?".
elder answers: "there is no specific date".
later after the meeting, i asked an elder if the new understanding of the remnant now meant that younger people could go to heaven.. he answered with an affirmative "yes" and that we would be getting the new understanding of the generation jesus spoke of in a future 2008 watchtower.. .
